In combination with a thorough and consistent at-home oral hygiene routine, visiting your dental hygienist here at our Surrey dental practice for regular cleanings and checkups is essential for your long-term oral health.
Cleanings & Checkups
At Guildford Heights Dental Centre in Surrey, our dental hygienists provide routine cleanings to help maintain the health of your teeth and gums. We recommend you visit your hygienist once every six months, or as prescribed by your dentist, depending on your needs.
However, the recommended frequency of visits is determined by your homecare and the condition of your teeth and gums.
If you have existing gum disease or untreated decay we would prefer to see you more frequently to ensure the condition of your teeth and gums does not deteriorate. If things are generally healthy we typically see our patients every six months.
Gum Disease & Your Health
Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is one of the most common diseases among Canadians. Despite your very best efforts in maintaining your oral health, gum disease may still occur. Depending on the severity of your gum disease, you may require gum therapy treatment.
What are the symptoms of gum disease?
You may not even be aware that you have gum disease, since sometimes, there are no symptoms at all. However, some of the noticeable symptoms of gum disease include the following:
- Sore gums
- Swollen gums
- Red or purple gums
- Receding gums
- Bleeding gums
- Persistent bad breath
Prevention First
We believe strongly that prevention is always the best treatment regardless of age.
Our preventative package is tailored individually for each client and it usually consists of an examination including:
- an oral cancer screening
- an examination of the teeth, gums and soft tissue
- an examination of your jaw joints and how the teeth come together (occlusion),
- any required x-rays/radiographs,
- teeth cleaning (scaling/rootplaning) and
- caries prevention treatment (fluoride applications, desensitizers, oral hygiene instruction).
