At Guildford Heights Dental Centre our dentists use Invisalign clear aligners to help our patients achieve straighter, healthier smiles. If you're considering Invisalign, you may be wondering if your treatment will hurt.
How does Invisalign feel?
When deciding which orthodontic treatment is best for straightening your smile, comfort is bound to be a key factor in your decision. Many patients who have used Invisalign, describe treatment as a feeling of slight discomfort that disappears over time, until gradually you don't notice it anymore.
Many people suggest thinking of Invisalign aligners as you would a new pair of shoes; you become more comfortable with how they feel after you have worn them for awhile. Chances are good that even if you feel some discomfort you will get used to the feeling after awhile.
Will it take long to get used to wearing my aligners?
Regardless of which orthodontic treatment you choose, there is going to be an adjustment period.
To move your teeth into their corrected positions, your Invisalign aligners need to apply pressure. That pressure may cause some discomfort.
Those people who do experience discomfort tend to feel it for the first few days after putting in a new set of aligners, then it gradually wears off until changing to the next set of aligners.
Since Invisalign's clear aligners don't have any irritating metal brackets or wires there is typically less discomfort felt by patients using Invisalign vs metal braces. However the aligners could still irritate the soft tissues of your mouth when you first begin your treatment.
If you experience discomfort due to the irritation of the soft tissues of your mouth, try to be patient. Given a little time, your gums and cheeks will toughen up and the aligners should no longer cause irritation.
